Designation/Position- Elbe Postdoctoral Fellows Program
Center for Systems Biology Dresden, Germany invites application for ELBE postdoctoral position from eligible and highly interested candidates.
About- To develop theoretical and computational approaches to biological systems across different scales, from molecules to cells and from cells to tissues. Starting from primarily observations of spatio-temporal phenomena, we seek multi-scale models that can explain the principles by which a system functions and that predict how it reacts to perturbations. That is, what simple physical and chemical rules at one level generate complex, emergent behaviors at the level above? To answer such questions, we combine a unique blend of state-of-the-art genomic technologies and quantitative microscopy, with computer vision, computational science, and theoretical physics. ELBE postdoctoral position
Location- Center for Systems Biology Dresden, Germany
Research/Job Area- Cell or Developmental Biology, Computational Biology or Bioinformatics, Theoretical Physics, Biophysics, Bioimage Informatics, Computational Science, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, or Computer Science
Eligibility/Qualification- The ELBE postdoctoral position Program seeks outstanding external candidates that bring new ideas, concepts, or systems to the Center. Research group focus on candidates with backgrounds in Cell or Developmental Biology, Computational Biology or Bioinformatics, Theoretical Physics, Biophysics, Bioimage Informatics, Computational Science, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, or Computer Science with a strong interest in working in a cross-disciplinary life-science environment.
ELBE Postdoctoral Fellows are expected to collaborate with more than one research group to bridge between disciplines. The candidate is expected to identify a collaborative project and the host groups to work with within three months after arrival. An interim mentor will support this process. When host groups and research projects are identified, mentorship can be changed or adjusted to facilitate collaborations.
Job/Position Description- Fully funded fellowships for distinguished independent postdoctoral researchers to join the Center for Systems Biology Dresden (CSBD) for a duration of 1 to 3 years.
The ELBE Postdoctoral Fellows Program provides an ideal springboard to an independent research career in systems biology, biophysics, computational biology, and related areas. ELBE Postdoctoral Fellows conduct curiosity-driven research at the Center and are provided with competitive personal financial support, access to research infrastructure, and support for research expenditure and travel.
In addition to postdoc openings in individual research groups, the ELBE Postdoctoral Fellows Program offers fully funded fellowships on a competitive basis. We seek strong postdoctoral researchers with backgrounds in Computational Biology, Theoretical Physics, Biophysics, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or Cell and Developmental Biology and a strong interest to work in the cross-disciplinary environment of the CSBD. ELBE Postdoctoral Fellows are independent and are expected to collaborate with more than one research group to bridge between disciplines. The appointment is typically for two years with the possibility of a one-year extension to three years in total. Extensions beyond three years are not possible.
How to Apply- Selection of ELBE postdoctoral position is highly competitive and follows a two-stage procedure with two cycles a year. Applications are exclusively accepted through the online web-based application system. We do not accept applications by e-mail or direct contact of a group leader. In the first selection stage, candidates are judged on their track record and a research proposal describing the work they intend to do while at the CSBD. Short-listed candidates are invited to on-site interviews with travel costs covered by the CSBD. The on-site interview consists of a public scientific talk and a confidential meeting with the selection committee.
To apply, please fill the online application form
and upload a single pdf file containing
- a cover letter,
- publication list,
- a summary of previous research (max. 1 page) and
- a concisely worded research statement of the proposed work during your stay at CSBD (1-2 pages), preferably oriented towards the mission and interests of the Center.
Please also arrange for two confidential letters of recommendation to be submitted online.
Applications are considered by a scientific committee, which meets twice a year. The next application deadline is August 15, 2018.
Applicants will be informed of the outcome soon after the committee meeting and invited for on-site interviews. Successful candidates should take up their positions within four months of final acceptance.
