ICFO – The Institute of Photonic Sciences, Spain invites application for Post-doctoral/ Research Engineer position from candidates having PhD-degree preferably in experimental optics.

About- ICFO is offering a research postdoctoral position to a well qualified, highly motivated and dynamic individual who wishes to enhance his/her scientific career in a friendly and stimulating environment. The successful candidate will be working at ICFO as part of both the Plasmon Nano-optics group led by Prof. Dr. Romain Quidant, and the Medical Optics group led by Prof. Dr. Turgut Durduran. Project Title- Diffuse optics for cancer therapy

LocationICFO – The Institute of Photonic Sciences, Spain

Eligibility/Qualification- Research group is looking for a highly ambitious, target oriented, self-driven and strong team-player, with a PhD-degree (or evidence of its completion in the nearest future) preferably in experimental optics.

Experience in optical microscopy, optical instrumentation or diffuse optics for small animal imaging is highly desired. The candidate should have a proven track record of excellence in academics and experimental research.

No restrictions of citizenship apply to the ICFO positions. Female scientists are encouraged to apply.

The contract is offered for periods of one year, renewable for a total of up to three years.

Job/Position Description- Light is playing an increasing role in medicine, both in the diagnostics and the therapy of diseases like cancer. In parallel, recent advances in nanotechnology and biochemistry open new opportunities to detect cancer earlier as well as improve the efficiency of its treatment while reducing its invasiveness. The present project sits at the interface between nanotechnology, in vivo imaging and medicine and aims at combining the latest advances of each field to develop and validate a novel and less invasive treatment of cancer.

Research group is looking for an individual with a strong interest in developing a multi-modal platform for real-time planning, dosimetry and evaluation of plasmonic enhanced photothermal therapy. The candidate will join and play a leadership role in a small team organized around these activities. We expect that he/she will bring in strong skills in merging different modalities into a usable, portable and robust imaging/treatment platform.

The selected candidate will strongly benefit from a multidisciplinary environment offered by the two hosting groups, strengthened by a close collaboration with a local biomedical institute and clinicians.
