Bielefeld University, Germany invites application for Research Position (Postdoc) from eligible and interested candidates
About- The department of Behavioral Ecology combines research on vertebrate olfaction (with a focus on avian olfaction) and host-microbe
interaction, both in captive species, as well as in free ranging species to understand fundamental aspects (functions as well as mechanisms)
of animal communication. We seek a experienced and highly motivated postdoctoral researcher who is able to work independently and as
part of a multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing an own research agenda. The team is
international and the working language is English. Within the building more than 50 scientists from over ten different countries work on
related topics in behavior, ecology and evolution. We offer a stimulating international environment and an excellent research infrastructure
with access to state-of-the-art techniques. In addition, in case of appropriate scientific profile and interest, the position involves the possibility to contribute to the CRC-TRR 212 entitled ”A Novel synthesis of Individualisation across Behaviour, Ecology and Evolution: Niche Choice, Niche Conformance and Niche Construction (NC3).“

Eligibility/Qualification–
relevant university degree in biology or a relevant discipline
completed doctorate in biology or a relevant discipline
fluent English language skills (written and oral)
relevant research experience
demonstrated publication record
experience in one of the core research areas (olfactory communication, sensory ecology or microbiology or bacteria-host interaction)
ability to conduct research autonomously
strong communication skills and enthusiasm for working as part of an interdisciplinary and international team
independent, self-reliant and dedicated style of work
strong organizational and coordination skills
ability to cooperate and to work in a team
Job/Position Description-
The tasks include in particular:
research work (85 %):
research in one of the core areas of the department (function and mechanism of olfactory communication in vertebrates, impact
of bacteria on the development of body odors/communication)
interdisciplinary collaborations
preparation of scientific publications
teaching (10 %)
2-course hours of teaching in the Master „Ecology and Environmental Change“ (in English)
supervision of Master- and Bachelor projects
other tasks (5 %)
tasks within the research group
academic self-administration and organizational tasks within the research group
