Postdoctoral Research Position in Technical University of Denmark (DTU)

Designation/Position- Postdoctoral research position

Technical University of Denmark (DTU) invites application for Postdoctoral research position from for eligible and interested candidates

About- The Danish Hydrocarbon Research and Technology Centre (Centre for Oil and Gas – DTU), Technical University of Denmark (DTU), invites applicants for a position on investigations of mechanisms and models in the context of advanced water flooding. Centre for Oil and Gas – DTU is established by the Danish Underground Consortium and DTU. As part of a national strategy on oil and gas, the research centre is an ambitious, targeted effort to improve recovery of oil and gas from the Danish North Sea.

DTU is a leading technical university globally recognized for the excellence of its research, education, innovation and scientific advice. We offer a rewarding and challenging job in an international environment. We strive for academic excellence in an environment characterized by collegial respect and academic freedom tempered by responsibility.

Research/Job Area- Applied mathematics, computational fluid dynamics, petroleum, hydrogeology, chemical, mechanical engineering or other relevant areas

Location- Danish Hydrocarbon Research and Technology Centre (Centre for Oil and Gas – DTU), Technical University of Denmark (DTU)

Eligibility/Qualification–

  • PhD degree in applied mathematics, computational fluid dynamics, petroleum, hydrogeology, chemical, mechanical engineering or other relevant areas;
  • Excellent skills in CFD and programming (preferablly C++);
  • Exceptional skills in mathematics, physics and chemistry;
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of multiphase flow, geochemistry and geomechanics in porous media;
  • Previous experience with devloping numerical codes for modelling coupled flow and transport in porous formations with discrete geological features is?highly advantageous.
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment;

Job/Position Description- The position will be an integrated part of the advanced water flooding programme with the focus on improving oil recovery in chalk reservoirs in the Danish part of the North Sea. In this context, the candidate is expected to perform innovative, fundamental and applied research on understanding of  fracture-matrix interactions and recovery from fractured chalk reservoirs, and upscaling of  multiphase flow on scales ranging from the core- to field-scale. For field-scale models, employing reliable macroscopic laws capturing the integral effects of fractures on multiphase flow and  reducing the computational complexity of modelling of coupled processes are necessary.  To this end, reliable modeling techniques need to be developed and verified to integrate the key THMC processes, and discrete fracture models in the reservoir simulators.

The candidate should assist to set-up and develop various numerical tools tailored for modelling of the relevant EOR/IOR methods.  It will contribute to shaping a computational fluid dynamics modelling lab at the centre. Co-supervising of Ph.D./MSc students working with reservoir simulation and collaboration with other researchers and students working with advanced water flooding experiments are required. The team will participate in a growing cross-disciplinary research program, involving several researchers at DTU and other Danish universities, research institutes, and industry. The team will have access to unique field and laboratory data sets to test concepts and methods developed at the centre.

Application potential
The line-of-sight application potential of this project is to assist the screening processes of potential water based recovery methods in the Kraka, Dan, and Halfdan oil fields.

The salary and appointment terms of the Postdoc position is based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.
